Trekker3D privacy policy
Effective 20 October 2026.
In short
Trekker3D has no account, no advertising and no analytics of its own. Your Points, Routes, Tracks, voice notes, photos and videos stay on your device. To draw maps and heights, the app asks map and elevation services for the area you are looking at. When you use Google's map or Earth view, and on Android when you scan a QR code, Google's own libraries send Google some technical data about the app and device, described below.
What the app stores, and where
Everything you create is kept in the app's storage on your device: Points and Peaks, Routes, Tracks and their statistics, Moments (voice notes, photos and videos), offline Areas, map layers you add, and your settings. Photos and videos are kept at full size. We have no server and never receive any of it.
Deleting the app deletes this data. Settings › Delete all data removes it without deleting the app.
What the app asks the internet for
To show maps and heights, the app requests tiles and elevations for the place on screen. Those requests reveal the area being viewed to the service that answers them; they carry no account or identifier from us:
- map tiles: OpenTopoMap and OpenStreetMap, and Google Maps when you pick Google's map;
- elevation: AWS Terrain Tiles (open data), then OpenTopoData's public API for points the tiles don't answer, then Google's Elevation API only while Google's map is on screen;
- Google's satellite imagery (Google Map Tiles API), when you choose Google satellite, in 2D or draped over the 3D ground;
- Google's photorealistic 3D map, when you open the Earth view;
- the Trek library and its lines are bundled in the app and need no connection.
A shared Route link keeps the Route in the part of the address after "#", which browsers do not send to our website.
Libraries that send data
- Google Maps SDK (iPhone, iPad and Android), used for Google's 2D map and the Earth view. Google's SDK sends Google: crash and performance data, a pseudonymous SDK identifier, request metadata (device model, OS version, SDK version), your IP address, and map interaction events such as panning and zooming. Google uses this to run and improve its services. See Google's Maps SDK data disclosure and privacy policy.
- Google ML Kit barcode scanning (Android only), used when you scan a Route's QR code. The camera image is read on your device. ML Kit sends Google device information, the app's package and version, per-installation identifiers, performance metrics and error codes. See Google's ML Kit data disclosure.
No other library in the app sends data.
Backups you make yourself
When you export a Track bundle, a GPX file or "Back up everything", the file goes where you send it: Files, AirDrop, email, a cloud drive. That copy is then under that service's terms, not ours.
Purchases
Apple and Google handle payment for Access. We never see your name, email or card. The app receives only what you own and when it ends, so it can turn Access on.
Permissions
Each is asked only when a feature needs it, and the app keeps working, with less, if you say no:
- Location, while using the app: when you tap the locate button or start navigating, to show where you are and your grid reference.
- Location, always (iPhone and iPad): only when you start recording a Track, so it keeps recording with the screen off. On Android the same runs as a visible recording notification instead.
- Motion and fitness / physical activity: to count steps, which keeps an estimated position when GPS drops and adds steps and cadence to Tracks.
- Camera: to take a photo or video for a Track, or to scan a Route's QR code.
- Microphone: to record a voice note or a video's sound.
- Photos: only the items you pick are shared with the app, when you add them to a Track or pin an image as a map layer.
- Notifications (Android): for the notification that shows while a Track is recording.
Contacting us
wekstuff@gmail.com. We read every message, and since we hold none of your data, we can't look anything up about you.
Children's privacy
Trekker3D is not directed at children under 13 and collects nothing from anyone in the app's own code.
Your rights
Your data is on your device, so you can see, export or delete all of it at any time from the app. For data Google's libraries send, use Google's privacy tools and policy linked above.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date, and the app's listing will be updated to match.
