Core Privacy Commitment: PaperScreen is a paid-only, 100% offline desktop and mobile application. We do not collect, store, transmit, or monetize any of your personal data, screen content, or reading habits.
This Privacy Policy applies to the PaperScreen application across macOS, iOS, and Android (collectively, the “Application”), developed and published by Devvrat Kalia (“we”, “us”, or “our”). This document explains our strict local-first data practices.
1. Zero Data Collection Architecture
PaperScreen is engineered from the ground up to operate without servers or cloud dependencies:
- No User Accounts: You do not need to create an account, log in, or provide any personal information (such as your name, email address, or phone number) to use PaperScreen.
- No Server Telemetry or Analytics: The Application does not contain third-party analytics SDKs (e.g., Google Analytics, Firebase, Mixpanel). We do not record session durations, feature clicks, or user telemetry.
- No Screen Content Access: PaperScreen does not inspect, read, log, capture, or transmit the text, windows, images, or documents displayed on your screen. The rendering engine applies an optical paper substrate and colorimetry transformation in memory only.
2. Paid-Only Model & Payment Processing
PaperScreen is distributed strictly as a paid, one-time purchase application:
- No In-App Advertising: PaperScreen contains zero advertising networks, zero tracking cookies, and zero advertising identifiers (such as Apple IDFA or Google Advertising ID).
- No Recurring Subscription Tracking: There are no recurring subscriptions or hidden tracking paywalls.
- Platform Billing: All purchase transactions are processed directly and securely by the platform operator (Apple Inc. via the Mac App Store / iOS App Store, or Google LLC via Google Play). We never receive, process, or store your credit card details, billing address, or payment instruments.
3. Local Storage & Data Retention
All user configurations—including your preferred Kelvin color temperatures, paper grain intensity, custom profiles, and eye-break schedules—are saved exclusively in your device’s sandboxed local storage (such as Apple UserDefaults or Android SharedPreferences).
This data never leaves your device. If you uninstall PaperScreen, all locally stored preferences are permanently removed by your operating system.
4. System Permissions & Purpose
PaperScreen requests only the minimal operating system permissions strictly necessary to simulate paper optics:
- Display Over Other Apps / Accessibility Overlay: Required on macOS and Android to draw the translucent, eye-soothing paper substrate layer over your display.
- Local Notifications (Optional): Required solely to deliver scheduled 20-20-20 eye-strain relief and posture reminders. These notifications are scheduled locally on your device without communicating with external push servers.
- Network Offline Guarantee: All typography and paper textures are bundled locally within the application bundle. PaperScreen does not make outbound network calls during runtime.
5. Children’s Privacy (COPPA & GDPR-K)
Because PaperScreen collects no personal information whatsoever, our Application does not knowingly collect or solicit data from anyone, including children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the European Union). PaperScreen is entirely safe for users of all ages.
6. International Privacy Rights (GDPR, CCPA / CPRA)
Under global privacy regulations including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):
- Right to Know / Access / Delete: Because we collect, store, and process zero personal data on any server, we possess no records or identifiable information to retrieve, correct, export, or delete.
- No Sale or Sharing of Personal Data: We do not sell, rent, or trade user data to third parties.
7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect updates in operating system requirements or legal obligations. Any changes will be posted to this URL (https://devvratkalia.github.io/paperscreen/privacy.html) with an updated effective date.
