Mealy Privacy Policy
Effective date: 14 October 2026
Mealy (shown on your device as "What Should I Cook?") is a meal planner for iPhone and iPad, made by Devvrat Kalia ("we", "us"). This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it.
In short
- Your kitchen stays on your device. Your household, diets, allergies, weekly plan, pantry, shopping lists and your own recipes are stored on your device. We never receive them.
- No account. There is nothing to sign up for or log in to. We hold no email address and no user id.
- The free version shows ads. Our advertising partner, Unity LevelPlay, collects advertising and device identifiers to show and measure those ads. Mealy Pro removes the ads.
- No analytics of our own. We don't record which screens you open, which recipes you cook or what you put on a shopping list.
- We never sell your personal data.
What Mealy stores, and where
Mealy keeps everything it needs on your device, in the app's own storage:
- the people in your household, their diets, the meats they eat, their allergies and dislikes;
- your cuisines, health level, cooking times and reminder settings;
- your weekly plan, which meals you've cooked, your pantry and your shopping lists;
- feast plans and the recipes you add yourself.
None of this is uploaded by Mealy. We have no servers that hold it, so we cannot see, read or recover it.
Deleting your data. Settings › "Delete my data" erases everything Mealy stores on your device. Uninstalling Mealy also removes it. If your device's own backup (such as iCloud Backup) is on, it can include Mealy's data, as it does for any app; that backup is controlled by you and Apple.
Advertising in the free version
The free version of Mealy shows ads through Unity LevelPlay (formerly ironSource), which may pass ad requests to the ad networks it works with, such as Unity Ads. To show and measure ads, the advertising software collects:
- Advertising and device identifiers. On iPhone and iPad the advertising identifier (IDFA) is only available if you allow tracking when Mealy asks. If you choose "Ask App Not to Track", it isn't shared. Other identifiers, such as an identifier for the app on your device, may still be used to show ads and prevent fraud.
- Ad interactions: which ads were shown and tapped.
- Diagnostics: crash and performance data about the advertising software itself.
- Device information: such as the device model, operating system, language and network type.
This collection happens whether or not you tap an ad. It is governed by Unity's privacy policy: https://unity.com/legal/game-player-and-app-user-privacy-policy. You can turn off tracking for all apps in Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking, and reset your advertising identifier in your device settings.
Mealy never sends the advertising software anything about your household, diets, plan or pantry.
The advertising software is part of the app for everyone. With Mealy Pro, no ads are shown.
Purchases
Mealy Pro is sold through the App Store. Apple handles the payment; we never see your payment details. The app receives only the purchase receipt from the App Store, which it uses to unlock Pro on your device.
Permissions
- Tracking (App Tracking Transparency). Asked once during setup, after a screen that explains it, and only used for ads in the free version. You can change your answer at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.
- Notifications. Asked only when you turn on reminders in Settings › Reminders, or tap "Notify Me" on a feast timeline. Reminders are scheduled on your device by the app itself. There is no push service, and nothing leaves your device to deliver them.
Mealy does not ask for your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone.
Sharing
When you share a recipe or a shopping list, Mealy hands the text to the share sheet on your device, and you choose where it goes. Mealy sends nothing itself.
Contacting us
If you email us, we use your message and email address only to reply. We don't add you to any list.
Children's privacy
Mealy is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Your rights
Everything Mealy stores about your household is on your device, and you can view, change or delete it in the app at any time. For the data collected by the advertising software, you can limit tracking as described above, or contact Unity through its privacy policy. If you have a question or a request about your data, email us.
Changes to this policy
If Mealy starts handling information differently, we'll update this page and its effective date before the change reaches the app.
